Air Fryer Hash Browns (Crispy & Golden)
Why Make Hash Browns in an Air Fryer?
Air fryers cook hash browns with much less oil than pan-frying while still making them crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even as a side dish.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
-
Wash the potatoes thoroughly to remove dirt.
-
Peel them if you prefer smoother hash browns (peeling is optional).
-
Grate the potatoes using the large holes of a box grater or a food processor.
Step 2: Remove Excess Starch (Very Important!)
-
Place the grated potatoes into a large bowl.
-
Fill the bowl with cold water and gently stir.
-
Drain the water and repeat once more until the water looks clearer.
-
Transfer the potatoes to a clean towel or cheesecloth.
-
Squeeze as much water as possible. This step helps make the hash browns crispy instead of soggy.
Step 3: Season the Potatoes
-
Put the dried grated potatoes back into the bowl.
-
Add oil, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.
-
Mix well so the potatoes are evenly coated.
Step 4: Preheat the Air Fryer
-
Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3–5 minutes.
-
Lightly grease the air fryer basket to prevent sticking.
Step 5: Cook the Hash Browns
-
Spread the potato mixture evenly in the air fryer basket.
-
Do not overcrowd—cook in batches if needed.
-
-
Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 10 minutes.
-
Open the air fryer and flip or stir the hash browns.
-
Continue cooking for another 8–12 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Step 6: Final Crisp (Optional)
-
For extra crispiness, increase the temperature to 400°F (204°C) and cook for 2–3 more minutes.
Serving Suggestions
