Orange Fluffy

Orange Fluffy

This is a light, airy, and soft cake with a fresh orange flavor. The texture is delicate and fluffy, and the taste is slightly sweet with a natural citrus aroma.

Ingredients

For the cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 and a half cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs at room temperature
1 cup fresh orange juice
Half cup unsalted butter, softened
Half cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest
2 teaspoons baking powder
Half teaspoon baking soda
Half teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional orange syrup:
Half cup orange juice
2 tablespoons sugar

Optional whipped topping:
1 cup cold heavy cream
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon orange zest
Half teaspoon vanilla extract

Step 1: Preparation

Start by preheating your oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Prepare a cake pan by greasing it with butter or oil, then line the bottom with parchment paper. This ensures the cake does not stick.

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature. Cold eggs or butter can affect the texture and prevent the cake from becoming fluffy.

Step 2: Preparing the dry mixture

Take a medium bowl and add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix them well using a whisk or spoon. This step ensures that the rising agents are evenly distributed throughout the flour.

Set this bowl aside.

Step 3: Beating eggs and sugar

In a large mixing bowl, add the eggs and sugar. Using a hand mixer or whisk, beat them together for about 5 to 7 minutes.

During this process, the mixture will change color and texture. It should become pale, thicker, and airy. This step is extremely important because it incorporates air into the batter, which makes the cake fluffy.

Step 4: Adding fats

Add the softened butter gradually while mixing. Once it is fully combined, pour in the vegetable oil and continue mixing until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.

The butter adds flavor, while the oil helps keep the cake moist for a longer time.

Step 5: Adding orange flavor

Now add the fresh orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract. Mix gently until everything is well combined.

The zest is especially important because it contains natural oils that give a strong orange aroma.

Step 6: Combining wet and dry ingredients

Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture in small portions. Use a spatula or spoon to fold the mixture gently.

Do not overmix at this stage. Mixing too much can remove the air you created earlier and make the cake dense instead of fluffy.

Step 7: Pouring and baking

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Tap the pan lightly on the counter to remove large air bubbles.

Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Do not open the oven door during the first 25 minutes, as this can cause the cake to collapse.

To check if the cake is done, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with a few dry crumbs, the cake is ready.

Step 8: Cooling the cake

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Cooling properly helps the cake maintain its structure and prevents it from breaking.

Step 9: Optional orange syrup

To make the cake more moist, you can prepare a simple orange syrup. Heat the orange juice and sugar in a small pan until the sugar dissolves.

While the cake is still slightly warm, poke small holes on the surface and slowly pour the syrup over it. Let it soak in.

Step 10: Optional whipped topping

In a cold bowl, add the heavy cream and powdered sugar. Beat until soft peaks form. Then add orange zest and vanilla extract and mix lightly.

Spread this cream over the cooled cake if you want a soft topping.

Final result

The cake should be soft, light, and fluffy with a delicate orange flavor. The crumb will be airy, and the texture will feel moist and tender when you slice it.

Extra tips

Always use fresh orange juice for the best flavor.
Do not skip the egg beating step, as it is key for fluffiness.
Fold the batter gently to keep air inside.
Avoid overbaking, as it can make the cake dry.
